Kolkata Knight Riders were left shell-shocked after Mumbai Indians defeated them by 8 wickets at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. No player from KKR could handle the pressure and the batting completely collapsed. It was MI’s Ashwani Kumar that led the pace attack and his 4 crucial wickets drowned KKR’s innings.
In the post-match presentation Ajinkya Rahane didn’t mince any words and highlighted KKR’s mistake. He mentioned that it was a good wicket to bat on and the batters needed to step up for making a respectable total.
“Collective batting failure, it was a good wicket to bat on. 180-190 would have been a good total on this pitch. We expect that (here), it has good bounce. When you are fighting against the bounce, that is what we did, you have to use it sometimes – we have to learn really fast. Bowlers were trying their best but not much runs on the board. We kept on losing wickets – four in the powerplay and after that, it was difficult to consolidate. You need one batter to bat through and stay till the end but that did not happen.” said KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane
KKR could not even play the first innings for 20 overs complete as the team was all out on 116. Mumbai Indians on the other hand wrecked havoc on field and didn’t leave a chance to crush KKR, they easily chased the target in 12.5 overs with Suryakumar Yadav hitting the winning six.
