India’s greatest captain, MS Dhoni, is turned 44 today (July 7) and he celebrated it in the most peaceful way. He celebrated his birthday with staff of Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) and the video went immediately viral. Known for his calm personality and intensely private life, Dhoni is keeping away from the media limelight and social media.
Though he has retired from international cricket in August 2020, Dhoni still captained the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2025 and is likely to stay with the team for a couple of more seasons. On this special day, we look back at three of Dhoni’s most beloved records that encapsulate his mythological career.
The Only Captain To Win All Three ICC White-Ball Trophies
MS Dhoni owns a rare record in world cricket he is the first and only captain to have won all three major ICC white-ball trophies. His captaincy flourished when he led a young Indian team to success in the first 2007 T20 World Cup.

In 2011, Dhoni made it to the records for the second time by guiding India to a much-needed ODI World Cup victory after 28 years. His six to seal the final at Wankhede is still one of the most remembered moments in Indian cricket history. In 2013, two years later, an inexperienced Indian team under his leadership won the Champions Trophy in England, making Dhoni the first and sole captain with a complete collection of white-ball titles.
First Indian Skipper To Lead Team India To No.1 In Test Rankings
Although Dhoni is lauded for his success in limited-overs cricket, his performance in Tests is also noteworthy. In 2009, India, under him as captain, topped the ICC Test rankings for the first time after defeating Sri Lanka in a series.
His capacity to switch between formats and captain successfully in both of them set a new standard. Years after, Virat Kohli would achieve the same, but Dhoni was the first to have pioneered Indian Test cricket to world dominance.
