Delhi Capitals bowling coach and ex-India pacer Munaf Patel has been fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct while playing his team’s high-voltage game against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday. The IPL issued a statement confirming that Patel had accepted the Level 1 offense under Article 2.20, which addresses conduct “contrary to the spirit of the game.”
“Munaf Patel admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 – which pertains to the conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game – and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction,” the IPL said in a statement on Thursday.

The incident occurred during Rajasthan’s innings when a Delhi Capitals substitute was said to have been prevented by the fourth umpire from coming onto the field to deliver a message from Patel. This resulted in a heated argument on the boundary, where Patel was witnessed having a shouting match with the umpire while tying his shoelaces. Video of the altercation soon went viral on social media. In spite of the drama off the field, the match finished in dramatic style as Delhi Capitals outpaced the Royals in a heart-stopping Super Over. Mitchell Starc was the hero for the home team, initially keeping his composure to defend nine runs in the last over off well-set batsmen Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer and then pitching in with a wonderful Super Over spell to limit Rajasthan to only 11 runs.
