The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was under scrutiny again after New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra suffered a serious injury on-field during the 1st ODI of tri-series against Pakistan in Lahore. The incident occurred when Rachin Ravindra was hit by the ball while attempting a catch when Pakistan was batting, this left him bleeding and he was rushed of the field. The incident sparked huge backlash from fans who crticised PCB for the injury and urged ICC to take action for upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.
Controversy Over LED Lights at the Venue
Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif addressed the issue of debate in an episode of Caught Behind, in which he stated that use of LED lights remains the essential problem. He opined that possibly the lack of proper lighting in this venue may have been a reason why Ravindra could not see the ball clearly and therefore met with this accident.
“The glow is more in such lights. Hence, when the ball travels flat, you are often unable to see it,” he said.
Rachin Ravindra Out Of 2nd ODI
Rachin Ravindra is set to miss out on the second ODI after suffering a severe injury to his forehead in the first game. While fielding in the deep, Ravindra lost sight of a ball, which struck him, leaving him with a significant wound that required stitches. Although initial fears of more serious damage have been alleviated, the medical team continues to monitor him for any signs of delayed concussion. As a consequence, Devon Conway will take Ravindra’s place in the playing XI for the second ODI, according to ESPNcricinfo.
