Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Who Is Shubham Khajuria? The First J&K Batter To Hit Double Century In 22 Years

Shubham Khajuria, a batter from Jammu & Kashmir has turned out to be the first player from the region in 22 years to score a double ton in Ranji Trophy. He achieved the feat against Maharashtra in Srinagar during the first round of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 on Saturday, October 12. His dynamic knock completely turned the tables for Jammu & Kashmir and helped them put up a massive target of 519 against Maharashtra.

Before Khajuria, the last J&K player who managed a double ton was Ashwani Gupta, who had achieved the feat in 2002 against Bihar. Khajuria marks himself as the third batter from J&K to have reached the century mark, after Gupta and Kavaljit Singh. Interestingly, Gupta had double centuries twice when he managed the milestone-thrice for that matter – the first in 1995 and then again in 2002.

J&K vs Himachal Pradesh in Una, 1995: Ashwani Gupta scored 210 (not out)

J&K vs Services in Delhi, 2001: Kavaljit Singh scored 206

J&K vs Bihar in Jamshedpur, 2002: Ashwani Gupta scored 203 (not out)

J&K vs Maharashtra in Srinagar, 2024: Shubham Khajuria scored 255

Ranji Trophy: J&K Vs Maharashtra

Khajuria batted his way into the selectors’ books as he dominated the Maharashtra bowling attack and led J&K to a secure position. The team began its innings poorly with Abhinav Puri getting dismissed for a duck on just two balls. But Khajuria went on to calm the team’s nerves, and by tea time, J&K had batted for 136 overs, gaining a colossal 449 runs.

Khajuria scored 255 not out off 353 balls, as other significant contributors in the chase were Shubham Singh Pundir with 37 runs, Paras Dogra with 30 runs, and Abdul Samad with 23 runs. Sahil Lotra contributed 18 runs for the team.

Shivansh Sharma also showcased his skills with 106 off 288, he remained not out as he struck 10 fours and 2 sixes.
