Rishabh Pant Injury Update: Bad News For Team India! BCCI Reveals Worrying Details About Pant’s Injury

With India heavily dependent on Rishabh Pant's batting and wicket-keeping, all attention will now focus on Pant's fitness before Day 2.

Team India has received a worrying setback on Day 1 of the Lord’s Test when wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant walked off the field with an injury to his left hand. This happened around the 34th over, when Pant seemed to hurt a finger on his left hand while picking up balls that ran down leg from Jasprit Bumrah. Pant was diving and changing continuously behind the stumps, and it seems he took one awkward blow too many.

Gautam Gambhir Rushes Towards Dressing Room After Pant Got Injured

At first, the problem didn’t look too bad, but Pant quickly walked out of the field and was replaced by Dhruv Jurel behind the wickets a decision that raised many eyebrows. Head coach Gautam Gambhir, sitting in the famous Lord’s balcony, immediately stood up and started walking towards the dressing room to see how Pant was doing, showing the seriousness of the injury.

BCCI Issues An Update

BCCI then issued an update on Pant’s injury and mentioned: “Team India vice-captain Rishabh Pant got hit on his left index finger. He is receiving treatment at the moment and under the supervision of the medical team. Dhruv Jurel is currently keeping wickets in Rishabh’s absence.”

Medical personnel treated Pant with a hasty dose of spray, but it wasn’t sufficient to have him back in the field. During the resumption of the post-tea session, there were growing worries with Pant still missing. Fans and analysts started worrying with Pant playing such a pivotal part in the lineup particularly as he’s been one of the most consistent Indian batsmen throughout the series.

Michael Atherton Says Pant ‘Chipped A Fingernail’

A later update on his situation came during the day, with ex-England skipper Michael Atherton making it known live that Pant had “chipped a fingernail” on the left hand. That may not seem terrible, but such information given by the Indian camp usually presages worse news.

“Still no Rishabh Pant. News from the dressing room is that he has chipped a fingernail. He is receiving ice treatment,” Atherton said.

Rishabh Pant’s Injury Worrying For Team India

Pant’s injury couldn’t have arisen at a worse moment. He’s been one of India’s top performers in the current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, with 342 runs through the first two Tests behind only captain Shubman Gill. His double centuries at Headingley were a first for an Indian wicketkeeper, but they came in defeat. At Edgbaston, he backed it up with a determined 65 in the second innings, assisting India to up the pace and provide England a competitive target of 336.

With India heavily dependent on his batting prowess and wicket-keeping abilities, all attention will now focus on Pant’s fitness before Day 2.
