New Delhi: Former India cricketer Roger Binny has been elected at the BCCI president and now he will be replacing Sourav Ganguly on the top position.
BCCI announced Roger Binny’s appointment at AGM as the 36th president as he was elected unopposed for the position. Binny was the only candidate who had filed the nomination.
Sourav Ganguly declined to continue as president
Binny was taken as option after Sourav Ganguly declined to continue his service. One of the BCCI sources had earlier said, “Sourav was offered IPL chairmanship but he politely declined the offer. His logic was that he cannot accept becoming head of a sub-committee in BCCI after heading the same institution. He had expressed interest in continuing in the position.”
Who is Roger Binny?
Roger Binny is a former Indian cricketer who was part of the 1983 World Cup winning team. He has also served as the coach of Bengal cricket team and along with that, he acted as the selector for BCCI. He is the first anglo-Indian cricketer.
Roger Binny and his cricket career
After making debut in 1979, he played his first Test against Pakistan in Bangalore. It was in 1980 that Binny made his ODI debut against Australia. In his career of 9 years, Binny played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India. The 67-year-old has 47 wickets in Tests and 77 wickets in ODIs. Apart from this, Binny has scored 830 runs in Tests and 629 runs in ODIs.
