Ahead of this sentimental moment, Indian captain Rohit Sharma sent out his heartfelt greetings to the seasoned all-rounder in the form of a moving video message.
Rohit, who has played alongside Mathews from their U-19 days, lauded the Sri Lankan legend for his efforts to the longest version of the game. In a Newswire video, Rohit stated, Mathews retires as one of Sri Lanka’s greatest Test players. With 8,167 runs to his credit, he is third in the nation’s all-time run-scorers’ list for the format behind legends Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara.
