Sanath Jayasuriya Named Permanent Head Coach Of Sri Lanka Until 2026

According to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Jayasuriya is in office until March 31, 2026.

Former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya is officially appointed as the permanent coach of the Sri Lankan men’s national cricket team Monday.

Sanath Jayasuriya Takes Charge As Sri Lanka’s Head Coach Till 2026

Jayasuriya had also served as the acting head coach, who witnessed the side throughout the recently played series against India, England, and New Zealand. Sri Lanka lost the Test series 2-1 against England, but they have even struggled in the T20I series against India. But in shocking turn of events Sri Lanka defeated India in the 3-match ODI series in August.

SLC posted on X saying:

“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce the appointment of Sanath Jayasuriya as the head coach of the national team.”

“The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket made this decision taking into consideration the team’s good performances in the recent tours against India, England, and New Zealand, where Jayasuriya was in charge as the ‘interim head coach.”

“The appointment came into effect on October 1, 2024, and will remain until March 31, 2026.”

Sri Lanka completed an overall win over New Zealand in two-test test matches held in Galle, which improved their position in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle. According to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Jayasuriya is in office until March 31, 2026. He relieved Chris Silverwood, who had left the country following the T20 World Cup in the Americas.

In Jayasuriya cricketing career, he has played 445 ODIs, scoring 13,430 runs at an average of 32.36, with 28 centuries and 68 half-centuries.
