Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson has been fined ₹24 lakh after the team committed its second over-rate offence of the 2025 IPL season. The fine was imposed after RR’s match against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, during which the team did not bowl their overs in the allotted time.
What Does IPL Code Of Conduct Say?
As per Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, a captain must pay ₹24 lakh for a second offence within the same season. Interestingly, the IPL has abolished the provision that earlier required a one-match suspension for a third offence. The remaining playing XII – including the Impact Player – have been fined either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is less.
2nd Time The Offense Has Happened
Interestingly, RR’s initial slow over-rate episode this season took place under Riyan Parag’s captaincy, who led the team against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) last month when Samson was out of action due to a finger injury and played only as an Impact Player. Parag, at that time, was fined ₹24 lakh for the offence.
This latest mishap occurred on RR’s third loss in five games this season, breaking their two-match winning streak. The team is now seventh on the points table.
