The new schedule for IPL 2025 has been announced and with the World Test Championship (WTC) Final on he horizon there is a bad news for all the franchises as the players from South Africa are likely to leave by May 2025 according to a report by ESPNCricinfo.
South Africa Players Likely To Go Back By May 25
The players who will be taking leave are Kagiso Rabada (Gujarat Titans), Lungi Ngidi (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Tristan Stubbs (Delhi Capitals), Aiden Markram (Lucknow Super Giants), Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch (Mumbai Indians), Wiaan Mulder (Sunrisers Hyderabad) and Marco Jansen (Punjab Kings). They will also be going home to South Africa before departing for the UK with the national team on May 30.
WTC Final Top Priority For CSA
According to ESPNCricinfo, priority will be given to WTC Final and Cricket South Africa (CSA) is in the hope that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will understand.
“That is the ongoing conversations that are being had between people in a higher pay grade than I am – the director of cricket (Nkwe) and Pholetsi (Moselki, the CEO of CSA). They’re dealing with that. We want our players back on the 26th and hopefully that comes to fruition.”
Ongoing Talks With BCCI
“It is an individual decision, obviously, to return or to play or continue,” Nkwe said. “But one thing we’ve made it clear, and we are finalising that with IPL and BCCI, is sticking to our original plan when it comes to the WTC preparations. Obviously, with May 26 being the latest for the Test guys to come back.”
