Vidarbha opener Dhruv Shorey showed exemplary form as he hammered his third consecutive century in the final of Vijay Hazare Trophy against Karnataka on Saturday at Vadodara. The former Delhi cricketer, who had earlier plundered centuries both in quarter-final and semi-final, again continued his golden run with an excellent 110 off 111 balls. He hit eight boundaries and two sixes in this knock that gave Vidarbha a good passage to chase through a daunting target of 349 set by Karnataka.

Vidarbha, who had won the toss and decided to field, was put to a tough test by Karnataka’s batting line-up. Although Karnataka began poorly, its middle order took over the reins with Ravichandran Smaran leading the charge with a century, while K Shrijith (78 off 74) and Abhinav Manohar (79 off 42) proved to be valuable additions, allowing Karnataka to score a stiff 348/6 in their 50 overs.
Vidarbha, heavily reliant on Karun Nair throughout the tournament, suffered a setback when Nair was dismissed for just 27 off 31 balls by India pacer Prasidh Krishna. With the pressure mounting, Shorey rose to the occasion, delivering a masterclass in composure and technique to guide his team to a memorable victory. Overlooked Despite Consistency
Despite a brilliant home record, Dhruv Shorey remains one of the most missed players by the national selectors. His consistent performances in all formats have not yet gotten him a single call-up for the Indian side. This recurring oversight has again led to debate on the failure of domestic stalwarts to breach the national door.
In First Class cricket Shorey has played 66 matches in which he has scored 4671 runs, this includes 13 centuries and 20 fifties. In List A matches he has played 72 matches where he has scored 2712 runs this includes 6 centuries and 19 half-centuries.
Dhruv Shorey’s IPL Journey
Shorey’s talent made him a part of the Chennai Super Kings team for the 2018 and 2019 seasons of the IPL. Before the mega-auction of the IPL 2025, Shorey set his base price at âč30 lakh but did not make it to the final list of 574 players auctioned during the two-day event, but still he went unsold.
