India’s batting legend Virat Kohli added another milestone to his name as he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record during Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal against Australia in Dubai. Kohli looked in complete control against the Aussies achieved his half century in a composed manner. With this knock, Kohli now holds the record for the most 50-plus scores in ICC ODI tournaments (24), overtaking Tendulkar’s tally of 23.
Virat Kohli Becomes Leading Run-Scorer
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma sits at the third spot in the list with 18, followed by Sri Lankan great Kumar Sanakkara (17) and former Australia skipper (16). Virat Kohli has also surpassed Shikhar Dhawan’s tally of 701 runs in the Champions Trophy, which now makes him the leading run-scorer in the tournament. Former captain Sourav Ganguly holds the third spot with 665 runs in 13 matches between 1998 and 2004.

India’s ‘Run-Machine’ In Exceptional Form
The star player has been sensational throughout the tournament. Having hit a century against Pakistan in the group stages, he carried his form over to the pressure game of the knockout stages, steadying India’s innings after the early dismissal of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

During the first innings, Steve Smith led the Australian score with 73, and Alex Carey added 61. Still, the Indian bowling unit had the Aussies limited to 264 in 49.3 overs. The star of the bowling show was Mohammed Shami, who picked up three wickets, supported by Ravindra Jadeja and Varun Chakravarthy’s two each that placed India firmly in charge.
