Dhoni Retiring 2 years before World Cup
Former India captain and World Cup winner, MS Dhoni announced his withdrawal from the captaincy in January 2017 ahead of the ODI series against England. This was just 2 years before the 2019 World Cup. After Dhoni, Virat Kohli was picked as the captain of the Indian side. Dhoni led India to victory in the 2016 Asia Cup, where India remained unbeaten.

Virat Kohli stepped down as the captain for the Men in Blue in 2021 after being appointed in 2019 which was also just 2 years before the 2023 World Cup when India hosted the ICC event. The Indian team remained undefeated throughout the tournament when just it lost to Australia in the finals. This legacy of stepping down as captain from 2 years gap seems to bother fans as they now consider that Rohit might do the same regarding the 2027 ODI World Cup.
