England right-handed batsman Jamie Smith on Friday equaled South African cricketer Quinton de Kock’s record of hitting 1000 runs in the shortest innings of a Test match by a wicketkeeper. Smith reached this milestone during the first session of day two of the Lord’s Test. He achieved this feat in 21 innings, which is tied with De Kock, who walked away from the longest version of the game in December 2021. England batter Jonny Bairstow and Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal are tied for the second spot on this list at 22 innings behind Smith and De Kock.

Sri Lanka’s great batter Kumar Sangakkara and ex-South Africa skipper AB de Villiers are jointly third with 23 innings, and ex-West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Jeff Dujon is in the fourth spot with 24 innings. Jamie Smith returned to the pavilion scoring 51 runs from 56 balls, which were aided by six fours. Recapping the first session of Day 2, England took to the field in the first session at 251/4, with Root (99) and skipper Ben Stokes (39) unbeaten.

On the first ball of the day with a boundary, Root continued his incredible run at Lord’s, notching his ninth international ton at the venue and his 37th century in Test cricket, climbing to fifth spot among all-time Test centurions. In the 86th over, Jasprit Bumrah delivered the breakthrough for India, getting a wonderful nip-backer that hit Stokes’ top of off-stump, out for 44 in 110 balls, with four fours. England was at 260/5, bringing an end to an 88-run association between two of the most experienced players in the team.
Jamie Smith was the next to bat on the crease and went straight after Mohammed Siraj with two thumping fours. Yet, in the very next over, Bumrah proved once again to be a savior, having Root castled for a 199-ball 104 comprising 10 fours and then having Chris Woakes caught behind by Dhruv Jurel for a golden duck. England was 271/7.
Smith kept up his aggressive style of cricket, scoring boundaries against Siraj and Bumrah and playing some lovely shots, showing his class and strength. The 300 was reached by England in 92.3 overs. Even Carse scored some useful boundaries. Smith kept up his scorching form, reaching his half-century off 52 balls, with six fours. On the same ball, England reached their 350 mark. Smith and Carse ensured England went through the rest of the session without any issues.
