KL Rahul ensured India was on top of the game against England at Stumps in Leeds on Sunday with a well-measured 47 not out after Jasprit Bumrah had taken a five-wicket haul. Bumrah came in with 5 for 83 and India was able to dismiss the Three Lions to 465, giving them an innings lead of six runs. Ollie Pope had 106 and Harry Brook 99. In the case of India, Prasidh Krishna took three wickets and two wickets were taken by Mohammed Siraj. India got off to a poor start in their second innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal being dismissed early (4) but Rahul and Sai Sudharsan combined to build an onerous partnership of 66 runs to get the side out of danger. India finished the first day on 90/2 and 96 ahead.

A wicket early in the day for England, exactly what they were looking for. Good length delivery just outside off, hits the deck and nips back in, Gill was rooted to his crease looking to cut but it cramped him for room and took a thick inside edge before rattling the stumps. Little too full and a little too close to him for that shot. Gill walks back with a dejected look on his face. Just a little lazy from the Indian skipper.
