That's stumps as Crawley just after finding the fielder turned his back and started to head towards the pavilion. He knew it was stumps and did not want anymore play for the day. Gill and Pant ran forward in anticipation of another over and then looked at the square-leg umpire but by then stumps were already called. High-fives from the Indians after that as they head inside. Meanwhile Brook claps the two openers in.
KL Rahul ensured India was on top of the game against England at Stumps in Leeds on Sunday with a well-measured 47 not out after Jasprit Bumrah had taken a five-wicket haul. Bumrah came in with 5 for 83 and India was able to dismiss the Three Lions to 465, giving them an innings lead of six runs. Ollie Pope had 106 and Harry Brook 99. In the case of India, Prasidh Krishna took three wickets and two wickets were taken by Mohammed Siraj. India got off to a poor start in their second innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal being dismissed early (4) but Rahul and Sai Sudharsan combined to build an onerous partnership of 66 runs to get the side out of danger. India finished the first day on 90/2 and 96 ahead.
India Playing XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna.
England Playing XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir.
Siraj to Crawley, FOUR, Siraj goes further wide outside off, gives Crawley the room to free his arms, he gets forward and carves it, intentionally did not keep it down, over backward point and that's consecutive fours, Crawley looking to be positive here
Siraj to Crawley, no run, good length and tight on off, Crawley gets forward to defend solidly to mid-on
Josh Tongue to Jadeja, FOUR, fine shot again. A short delivery on the stumps, Jadeja gets inside the line slightly and pulls hard and wide of fine-leg to his right, again into the gap and these are crucial runs for India
Josh Tongue to Bumrah, out Bowled!! Wild slog from Bumrah and he loses his middle-stump. This is a wobble-seam full delivery that shapes back in from outside off, Bumrah gets forward to mow and it's an inside-edge on to middle-stump, which sends it cartwheeling. With so much movement in, Bumrah wanted to take on the aggressive option and perishes. Three in four balls for Josh Tongue and England are close to mopping up India here. What a turnaround suddenly.
Josh Tongue to Thakur, out Caught by Root!! Edged and taken at first slip. Full and outside off stump, Shardul looks to drive, thick edge and Root pouches it safely reverse-cupping
Woakes to Karun Nair, out Caught&Bowled!! Soft, very soft from Karun Nair and he stands there in disbelief. Good return catch from Woakes in his follow-through. Full and just hanging just outside off stump, Karun leans forward to drive past mid-off, instead hits it straight back to the bowler. India lose 3 wickets now for 48 runs. England getting back into the game with the second new ball.
Brydon Carse to Rahul, out Bowled!! The angled-bat has brought about his downfall. Inside edge clatters into the middle stump. Headingley rises to KL as he walks off. He raises the bat to acknowledge all the applause and disappears into the dressing room. Sensational innings from KL. He was trying to cut this short of length delivery, extra bounce troubled him here. He was on the back foot to cut, the shot was on but the bounce meant his bat wasn't exactly horizontal and took the inside edge to hit nothing but middle stump.
Brydon Carse to Karun Nair, no run, hits the pad but missing leg. Length delivery nipping back in, Karun defended well outside the line and missed this ball
Brydon Carse to Karun Nair, FOUR, brilliant off-drive! On the move, leaning into the shot, great balance, full face of the bat and firm down the ground through mid-off. So lovely on the eye
Bashir to Rahul, 1 run, length delivery on middle, worked towards square leg
Bashir to Karun Nair, FOUR, there's his first runs on comeback! Tossed up full and just outside off, Karun Nair brings out the reverse-sweep and he gets it fine and past third man, remarkable shot to play when under so much pressure
Bashir to Pant, out Caught by Crawley!! And the fun is over! Trap was set and laid bare, Stokes was just hoping and praying Pant falls into it and he has but not before he's made another scintillating century! Tossed up full on off-stump, Pant takes it on with a slog-sweep but can't quite get under it, doesn't time it or get the elevation and he holes out to Crawley at wide long-on. He walks off to a standing ovation. A century in each innings, take a bow Rishabh Pant!
Bashir to Pant, 1 run, he'll get there with a single but that's a special moment! Twin-centuries for India's entertainer-supreme! Length delivery wide outside off, Pant reaches out and cuts it away towards deep point. He scurries across and this time the celebrations are a lot more measured. He takes his helmet off and soaks in the applause before getting a big hug from his partner. Everybody rises in applause, Sunil Gavaskar gestures him to celebrate with another somersault but Pant says next time. A look of great satisfaction on Pant's face after that
Bashir to Pant, no run, keeps it out of his reach, length delivery turning away wide outside off, Pant looks to play before letting it go
Bashir to Rahul, 2 runs, 100 for Rahul. Big smiles from Gill, Sai Sudharsan and the others in the Indian dressing room. Rahul kisses the crest on his India helmet and then hugs Pant. A smile and a chat follows. It's full outside off, he gets forward and drives wide of sweeper cover, comes back for the 2nd
Josh Tongue to Pant, no ball, 2 runs, 50 for Pant. What a game for him. Hundred in the first innings, now a 50 and batting. Gets there with a tuck off the middle and leg-stumps, it is angled in and Pant closes the face of the bat and tucks it wide of fine-leg, easy two and there's a long chat between Pant and Rahul after the celebration for the 50 is complete, also Josh Tongue has overstepped
Josh Tongue to Pant, FOUR, guided away for four. A length delivery outside off, Pant goes on the back foot and taps down on it with an open face, third man had not much distance to cover but it races away
Bashir to Pant, no run, flat good length on off, Pant goes on the back foot and punches to the left of backward point, Rahul wants a run, but is sent back in time even as the throw is well wide of the bowler and the stumps
Josh Tongue to Pant, no run, Stokes claps in appreciation as the thick inside-edge hits the pad and rolls to point. Full outside off, Pant was a bit late on the drive, the thick inside-edge hits the pad and rolls away
Stokes to Rahul, no run, ouch! Hit on the box. Short of a length delivery on the stumps, KL looks to pull off the back foot, under edge and then onto the box. That has hurt him and he takes a moment to gather himself back. Rishabh goes and talks to KL, who is fine to carry on
Stokes to Rahul, FOUR, oh shottt! That is the shot of the morning. Stokes kept this around off stump, KL leans slightly forward, let this full delivery come, covered the outswing and gave the full face of the bat as he punched the drive to the right of cover. Man, this guy is all class
Stokes to Pant, 1 run, oh uppish guide but no one at backward point to catch that. Short of a length delivery angling in, Pant was looking to place it square but middle it well. The ball went off the bottom of the bat
Stokes to Rahul, no run, oh extra bounce and away seam movement. That's too much movement and not going to get any batter out. KL smiles at that unplayable ball. Probably hit a crack from back of a length and took off with away swing, beat KL by a distance as he was looking to play initially
Josh Tongue to Rahul, FOUR, oh steered away nicely in the gap between gully and slip. Short of a length delivery just outside off stump, KL rises tall, gets on top of the bounce, opens the bat face late and guides with full control and ensured it rolled along the ground to the left of gully
Stokes to Rahul, no ball, good ball again, angling into off-stump from a length and shaping away late, Rahul watches it closely again before KLeaving
Brydon Carse to Pant, no run, past the outside edge! Good length delivery angling in from outside off, Pant prods forward and plays, it just goes past the outside edge, tentative looking defence that
Brydon Carse to Pant, FOUR, in the air and safe! Pant isn't going to sit around, full and just outside off, he leans in and goes for a big slog across the line, it takes the top-edge and shoots up before ending up in the fine-leg region. Both the keeper and first slip tried getting under it but the wind kept taking it away from them
Woakes to Pant, no run, full on off-stump, Pant prods forward and blocks it into the covers
Brydon Carse to Rahul, 2 runs, full-toss on middle, Rahul wasn't ready for it and he just mistimes it out through mid-wicket, fifty nonetheless for Rahul - 18th in Test cricket and he's batted superbly in this innings. Lots of stylish drives amidst disciplined leaves and blocks
Woakes to Pant, no run, fuller and outside off, Pant is happy to shoulder arms again, Woakes is just trying to tempt Pant into something again
Brydon Carse to Gill, out Bowled!! Oh he's chopped it on! Gill's second batting endeavour as skipper isn't quite as successful as his first! A wicket early in the day for England, exactly what they were looking for. Good length delivery just outside off, hits the deck and nips back in, Gill was rooted to his crease looking to cut but it cramped him for room and took a thick inside edge before rattling the stumps. Little too full and a little too close to him for that shot. Gill walks back with a dejected look on his face. Just a little lazy from the Indian skipper.
Brydon Carse to Gill, no run, good length delivery on off-stump, Gill hangs back and eases it towards cover
