Cricket and mixed martial arts sports are now part of the 2026 Asian Games schedule which will take place in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture together with Nagoya City. The Olympic Council of Asia requested the expansion of games which led the Asian Games organizing committee to announce this change during their Monday meeting in Nagoya. Open water swimming does not appear in the scheduled events for the upcoming games.

The committee works to organize cricket sporting competitions for the prefecture because it lacks dedicated cricket facilities. Cricket matches took place at Sano’s Tochigi Prefecture facilities on July 24 of the year 2021. The committee carries out discussions with municipalities that operate cricket facilities. Sano in Tochigi Prefecture remains a suitable choice for hosting cricket because it previously organized domestic alongside international cricket tournaments.
The men’s Japan national cricket team secured their second appearance ever at the Under-19 World Cup as they played at the Sano International Cricket Ground earlier this week. The competition will take place at Namibia and Zimbabwe during early 2026.
According to the committee, there will be sixteen teams which include men and women in football although this number falls short of original projections. The organizing committee determined that Kyoto and Hyogo Prefectures will not serve as match venues during the sport events.
