Tennis star Nick Kyrgios said he doesn't want to play anymore after the Wimbledon 2022 runner-up pulled out of Australian Open 2024 recently

Days after the 28-year-old announced about pulling out from his home tournament Australian Open 2024 this year due to injury, Kyrgios cited fitness problems as one of the major reasons for his decision.

“If it was up to me, I don’t really want to play anymore, to be honest. But I have to almost (keep playing). I’ve got so much more to give, but for me, I don’t want to play anymore. “I’m exhausted, I’m tired. I have had three surgeries now. I always wanted to be able to have a family and not be in pain. When I get up, I can’t walk without pain.” said Kyrgios in an interview.

“I only want to play for about another one to two years and be at the top and go out (on) my own terms. I would hate to have another surgery or anything like that. So I think I’ve still got the ability to have a good one to two years.” he added.

Kyrgios failing to perform when it counts

An exhausted Kyrgios has been battling with mental problems and several injuries including a surgery on the knee which has hindered his potential participations in major Grand Slams as well.
Reaching his career high rank of world number 16 back in 2016, Kyrgios has managed to make good progress in major tournaments but his temperament often got in the way of him and the title on many occasions.

Missing out on the home tournament (Australian Open 2024) due to injury left Kyrgios ‘heartbroken’ recently.
