ICC May Shift Champions Trophy To South Africa If PCB Refuses Hybrid Model: Report

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is among the most debated and heated topics in the cricket fraternity. As per a new report, the tournament is expected to entirely move to South Africa.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is among the most heated and debated topics in the cricket fraternity at the current time. The Champions Trophy 2025 which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan, seem to slip away from the country after BCCI’s refusal to play the tournament in the neighbouring country. The International Cricket Council has officially informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that the India national cricket team willn’t be travelling to Pakistan for the tournament. BCCI wants the tournament to be held under the hybrid model and wills to play its matches in the UAE.

However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) does not support the hybrid model and wants to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan fully. As per a new report by Sports Tak, the tournament can be shifted to South Africa if PCB doesn’t agree to ICC’s suggestion of a hybrid model in which the Indian team will play its matches in the United Arab Emirates.

Hybrid model was adopted during the Asia Cup 2023 when tournament was set to be hosted in Pakistan. However, with the Indian team not travelling to Pakistan due to security concerns, they played their matches in Sri Lanka and at the end, the Indian team won the tournament. The India vs Pakistan is among the most watched cricketing matches in the world and generates a lot of revenue for the ICC as well. The International Cricket Council willn’t want both the teams to withdraw from the tournament, otherwise, the world’s largest cricket governing body is expected to suffer a huge loss.
