New Delhi: International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the new rankings of Test bowlers on Wednesday, February 22. England pacer James Anderson climbed the summit after finishing off with seven wickets in the first Test against New Zealand.
The 40-year-old bowler is the second oldest bowler to top the Test rankings since Australia’s Clarrie Grimmett in 1936.

The England quick bowler overtook Australia captain Pat Cummins and Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to become the No.1 ranked bowler in the longest format of the game.

It is the sixth time that Anderson has held the title of the premier bowler on the Test rankings. The right-armer scaled heights back in May 2016 when he went past teammate Stuart Broad and Ashwin to hold top billing in a distinguished international career that commenced way back in 2003.
Anderson has been a mainstay in the majority of triumphs and the England legend now has collected a total of 682 Test scalps to be the third on the all-time list for Test wickets. The spin duo Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Shane Warne (708) are on the first and second position respectively.
Indian players have also improved their Test streak. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also moved up to seventh place from ninth rank.

Teammate Axar Patel is the second leading run-scorer in the series. The 29-year-old all-rounder, who has scored 158 runs, has been also rewarded with climbing up to the fifth position overall on the latest Test all-rounder rankings.
