ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, WI vs BAN: West Indies Women ensured a comprehensive victory over Bangladesh in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, as the latter got their second win from the tournament. Karishma Ramharack, a match-winning off-spinning All-rounder of the team, was phenomenal as she picked four wickets which helped the team to limit the score of Bangladesh to just 103 runs and then chased down the target within a matter of comfort. The West Indies won the match by eight wickets and made it their second success of the tournament.

Torrid Start By Bangladesh

Bangladesh had a horror PowerPlay batting. The openers were dismissed along with just 33 runs on the slow Sharjah pitch. The West Indies heavily relied on their spinners, and that proved to be a good decision by them. Ramharack struck early, getting her first wicket through a sharp stumping by Shemaine Campbell and dismissing Shathi Rani. A few overs later, Ramharack got Dilara Akter out as things started looking very scary for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana and Shobhana Mostary tried to regain the innings with a crucial third-wicket partnership that touched 40 runs. Sultana continued her class by hitting some important boundaries against Afy Fletcher. She had a narrow escape for a stumping call, but the West Indies regrouped soon, with Campbell eventually triggering a second clean stumping to send Mostary back, Ramharack’s third wicket.

However, Bangladesh’s middle order cracked under pressure when Fletcher pulled off two strikes in successive deliveries, further denting the chances. Ramharack sealed her four-wicket haul by getting rid of Ritu Moni, who was caught at deep midwicket. Bangladesh could manage only 103 before being bowled out despite Sultana’s splendid 39 runs.

West Indies Batters Outclassed Bangladeshi Bowlers

West Indies got off to a comfortable start as well. Hayley Matthews led the way, going through the Bangladesh bowling with care and hitting six boundaries during the PowerPlay. Stafanie Taylor then supported Matthews despite her injury in gathering a healthy 52-run partnership. Matthews fell to Marufa Akter when she was bowled through by the pacer. Taylor continued to propel the score even though she had to retire on 27 after getting hurt.

Deandra Dottin then chipped in to finish the proceedings, hitting a couple of sixes to enable West Indies to take an absolute victory. This win also ensured that their net run rate improved when they reached the top of the Group B standings at least for now. The West Indies Women look impressive as they put up a tremendous show in the tournament!

Brief Scores: Bangladesh Women 103/8 (Nigar Sultana 39; Karishma Ramharack 4-17) lost to West Indies Women 104/2 in 12.5 ov (Hayley Matthews 34) by 8 wickets
