ENG W vs WI W match: West Indies booked a place in the T20 World Cup semifinals with a six-wicket win over England on October 15. The victory brought fine batting for West Indies openers Qiana Joseph and Hayley Matthews as they ensured qualification along with South Africa in Group B while being on the threshold of elimination for England despite a promising start to the tournament.

England’s Batting Struggle

England, with Nat Sciver-Brunt, set a rather uninspiring target of 142 runs for West Indies. Sciver-Brunt’s sedate knock of 57 off 50 balls stabilized the innings somewhat but lacked the aggression to threaten West Indies all the way. Very poor bowling and fielding are two more reasons behind their inability to win the game. The psychological toll on the players was reflected as their aspiration to move forward slipped from their hands after the match.

Fielding Woes Haunt England

Fielding has been a big problem for England in this Women’s T20 World Cup, and the same happened here. Qiana Joseph, who hit her second fifty in just 34 balls, was dropped by the English fielders thrice. Routine catches that were easy run-outs for the team of England were not taken, and Joseph settled to inflame accordingly. Hayley Matthews also provided another quick 37-ball fifty. She too got helped by some missed chances.

West Indies Batters Pulled The Game!

At 142, the target seemed defensible, but the aggressive combination of Joseph and Matthews soon made light work of that too. Together they posted a 102-run partnership and continued to pound away at the English bowling throughout. It mattered little what bowling the bowlers tried couldn’t keep the West Indies openers under control.

Before England’s bowlers had any reasons to believe it was all over for them at the end of the match, the sinking look on their faces must have given away the defeat long before the last wicket fell.

The Original Kaanta Laga Girl: ‘It Was My Good Fortune That The Big Hit Song Came To Me’

Ashaji recalls Kaanta laga as an upbeat folk dance number  composed by Rahul Dev Burman. “It was peppy and catchy. We were all humming the  song when shooting it. But did I think it would become such a rage in retrospect? No! Success on that level cannot be predicted by anyone. I remember the song Maar diya jaye ke chhor diya jaye in my film Mera Gaon Mera Desh. That too became such craze, although Lataji’s other  songs  in the film were also outstanding.”
