India kicked off their Champions Trophy campaign with a convincing 6-wicket victory over Bangladesh at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday. The match featured contrasting phases, with India initially dominating before Bangladesh mounted a spirited comeback.
India’s bowlers made early inroads, reducing Bangladesh to a precarious 35 for 5. However, Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali turned the tide with an impressive 154-run partnership. Hridoy went on to complete a resilient century, while Jaker Ali contributed 68 runs, having survived an early scare when he was dropped before scoring.

Mohammed Shami marked his return to ICC tournaments with a spectacular five-wicket haul, his first since the 2019 ODI World Cup final. In response, India’s chase got off to a strong start through Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Though Bangladesh managed to pick up a few quick wickets to stay in the contest, Gill’s unbeaten century (101*) guided India to victory and bagged himself the Player of the Match award. Bangladesh might rue their missed opportunity when they dropped KL Rahul in the 37th over of India’s innings.
