In the ongoing match against New Zealand, Shreyas Iyer has just completed his half-century in 75 balls which is also the slowest half century of his ODI career. His previous slowest half century was off 74 balls against West Indies in Ahmedabad in 2022. He came to bat when the Indian innings was struggling at 22/2. He was seen using Rohit Sharma’s bat which was noticed by the spectators. The CEAT sticker had ‘HITMAN’ mentioned at the top of it.

Entered at a struggling time
Shreyas Iyer who got dismissed at 79, had a partnership with left-hander Axar Patel for 98 runs stabilizing some fractured part of the innings. Eventually, Axar Patel was dismissed by Rachin Ravindra when he was caught by Kane Williamson at backward square leg on 42 runs. Shreyas Iyer scored 15 runs against Bangladesh and 56 runs against Pakistan in this Champions Trophy. He got dismissed by William ORourke on 79 runs at mid-wicket.

Iyer has been India’s top choice for number 4 as he has proved to himself multiple times, how compatible he is and deserving to be in India’s playing XI. The New Zealand captain opted to bowl first and it seems like he has made the right call for his team.
