Whenever in cricket there is a talk about power and sheer timing with the bat, there is only one name which emerges in the mind, that is Rohit Sharma. In yesterday’s game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the “Hitman” played a match-winning knock of 76 runs of just 45 balls which included 4 boundaries and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 168.89.
But apart from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, there was an another young player, who lit up the Wankhede Stadium with his explosive batting and that batter is none other than, the young recruit of CSK – Ayush Mhatre.
Similarity with Rohit Sharma
There’s a quiet rhythm in Mhatre’s batting. A familiar elegance that takes you back to Rohit Sharma when in full flow. The trigger movement, that measured forward press, and the front-foot pull all carrying shades of the former MI skipper. The 17-year old didn’t only smashed strong MI bowlers with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Ashwani Kumar and Deepak Chahar, but also stamped an authority of his place in CSK’s playing 11.

Mhatre is fresh off from a strong domestic season. Not just with the white ball, but in red-ball cricket too. What stood out though was his composure against Ashwani Kumar a slippery customer who rushes you more than you’d expect. The youngster handled him with poise, picking lines early, trusting his game.

Suryakumar Yadav acknowledged Mhatre’s performance
It’s no surprise then that someone like Suryakumar Yadav has taken note. When a senior like SKY appreciates your game, you know you’ve turned heads and lit up the stadium with your gameplay.
That Pat of SKY surely would've meant a lot to the young Ayush! 💛💙#MIvCSK #WhistlePodu 🦁💛 pic.twitter.com/4P7jnpVomE

Still early. Still raw. But with this kind of foundation technique, temperament, and touch , the journey of Ayush Mhatre looks promising ahead. A long road to walk, but for now.
