During IPL 2025 Punjab Kings’ middle-order cricketer struggled to put up a decent batting performance leading to their yet another victorious game. Maxwell scored a single off two deliveries when playing against Chennai Super Kings during the Tuesday match until Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed him. The BCCI fined him 25 percent of his match payments because he violated IPL regulations of conduct. The disciplinary record of Maxwell received a new demerit point because of this infraction. According to BCCI’s norms, each player will get an amount of 7.5 lakhs apart from their contractual amount. This signals that Maxwell might pay around 1,87,500 rupees as a penalty.

Why Maxwell Has Been Punished?
Maxwell received a conviction because he performed an action that violates article 2.2 within the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials.
The article 2.2 defines damaging behavior as activities beyond standard cricket motions plus any intentional or reckless or unintentional (but still negligent) actions causing harm to advertising boards or boundary fences and dressing room entryways and additional building elements or fixtures. Per the rule it is a violation to swing a bat aggressively while frustrated that results in advertising board destruction, among other prohibited actions.
Despite limited success with runs Maxwell maintains effective bowling ability which enables him to obtain numerous wickets through his spinning deliveries. The prized wicket of Rachin Ravindra belonged to Maxwell after the CSK opener scored 36 runs that included six boundaries from 23 balls. Shashank Singh toasted the opposition with a half-century in 36 deliveries and Marco Jansen complemented him with his 34* off 19 balls to mount the late push. In reply, CSK managed 201/5.
