IPL 2025 Playoff Scenario: What Mumbai Indians Must Do To Stay In The IPL Title Race

Here is how Mumbai Indians, who currently have 14 points after 12 games can qualify and secure a place for themselves in the playoffs.

On May 17 On Royal Challengers Bengaluru will return to action with a match against Kolkata Knight Riders, following a week of no IPL games after the league was stopped on May 8 due to India and Pakistan’s tensions. Of the remaining 17 matches, all four places in the playoff can be won by any team. The first spot on the standings belongs to GT, with RCB, PBKS, and MI ranked after them. Here is how Mumbai Indians, who currently have 14 points after 12 games can qualify and secure a place for themselves in the playoffs.

Winning Both Matches Secures Qualification

Mumbai Indians are in 4th place on the IPL points table and they only have two more games to play which are against PBKS and DC. If Hardik Pandya’s team wins both games, they’ll end up with 18 points and make it to the playoffs. However, how these two teams finish in the standings will really come down to what Gujarat Titans and RCB do in their last four matches. Winning both matches will mean that Mumbai doesn’t have to worry about net run rate or what other teams do to finish among the top four.

What If MI Wins Only One Match

If MI gather only one victory, they will accumulate 16 points and their position will depend on what other teams do. If Mumbai wins against DC, they expect Punjab to beat DC again, winning 15 points while DC remain fourth. If MI gets the win over Punjab but loses against DC, they count on DC to beat Punjab again to end up on 16 points at fourth position. If Mumbai doesn’t win the next two matches, they will get eliminated and place fifth.
