SunRisers Hyderabad all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy needs to display greater batting experience during the current IPL 2025 season according to former cricketer Wasim Jaffer. Since his impressive showing in 2024 Nitish has experienced difficulties adapting his batting performance in 2025 because he scored 81 runs across the opening four matches. The manner in which Nitish Kumar Reddy throws away his wicket while the top order has already been lost in matches against New Delhi Capitals and KKR has received substantial criticism. Jaffer emphasises that Nitish requires a different strategy to succeed according to his assessment.
Wasim Jaffer Urges Middle Order Responsibility, Backs SRH Openers To Keep Attacking
Former India batter Wasim Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo that SunRisers Hyderabad’s IPL 2025 difficulties stem from problems in the middle order rather than from Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head’s attacking batting style at the top. Jaffer asserts that the aggressive opening partnership of Sharma and Head represents a solid strategy which should maintain its current form. Jaffer indicated that the key issue in the SunRisers Hyderabad batting lineup exists within the middle order positions No. 3 and No. 4. Jaffer recommended to Nitish Kumar Reddy that he should play his innings with increased commitment to responsibility to handle crucial match moments in the middle order.
“I won’t be telling them anything. I’ll, in fact, tell them to be themselves. That’s what worked for them. They put fear into the opposition bowlers, so you don’t want to tamper with that. They are very dangerous, and you know if they come off, SRH are very dangerous when the openers strike,” Jaffer said on ESPNcricinfo.
Jaffer Advises Patience For Nitish Reddy As SRH Seek Turnaround Against GT
“I will probably be telling Nitish Reddy. I think he is looking a little too rushed. He is playing high-risk options, even Abhinav Manohar for that matter. If those openers do not strike, there is an opportunity for the No. 3 and No. 4. Ishan Kishan is pretty new to their system. He has even got a hundred. He has been pretty unlucky as well. In the second game, he got caught down the leg side; in the third game, that slash went straight into the hands of the fielder. Those things happen. But Nitish Reddy can take his time; he is very dangerous when he plays 10, 12, 15 balls,” Jaffer concluded.
SRH will take on GT at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday, April 6. SRH are eager to bounce back after suffering three consecutive losses in the IPL 2025 season.
