Liam Delap is fast becoming one of the most promising young strikers in England, with Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca hailing in him as a future senior England player. As Chelsea prepare to take part in FIFA Club World Cup, opening against Los Angeles FC, Maresca has said he would have given them the full confidence to use 22-year-old, who he considers as a future England number nine. The manager believes in Delap because he has already admired his skills over a long period of time and now the forward is no longer a budding talent at both the Chelsea club and with England as a possible spearhead of the heart of the attack.

“I said Liam can be England’s number nine when we faced Ipswich,” Maresca stated, reflecting on their earlier encounters. “Now he is a Chelsea player, I’m going to say again, I don’t have any doubt that he can be in the future England number nine.”

The strong bond of trust between Maresca and Delap is evident. “It’s a win-win. We like Liam, Liam likes us, so it was an easy conversation,” the Chelsea boss said. The future of both club and country could very well rest in Delap’s hands.

Liam Delap provided a memorable 2024 25 season with Ipswich Town playing big in a variety of tournaments. He achieved 2 assists and 12 goals in 40 matches. He played every game of the Premier League, scoring 12 of these and providing both assists, thereby proving that he was the centrepiece in the amazing top-flight outing that Ipswich was having. He also played in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup, where he earned extra minutes to his tally. All told Delap consumed 2,670 minutes and this is an indicator of his fitness as well as his trustworthiness as he advances on the road to being a valuable source of attack both at club level and possibly nation level too.
