Stade de Reims got the better of AS Monaco in a high octane Ligue 1 derby to hand the hosts their biggest loss of the season. Right from kick-off Monaco ran the line, overrunning with their passing game and high pressing. Reims were hammered by Monaco and they never got going at all ball possession-wise, mostly were played wide. Monaco were too strong on the attack and held Reims to a minimum of possession as they did with goals. This win finally gave Monaco a strong position in the league, they are not out of the title race.

The in front of goal standout performance was from Mika Biereth, making a somewhat clinical shift. His composure and clinical kicking in the box to score a well taken goal, shows him to be a natural finishing instinct. It was his first goal for the team and was scored after a nice through ball, he put it past the goalkeeper calmly. Minutes later, he rounded the keeper with a thunderous effort to add to his tally hinting he has game breaking range between the lines. In addition to his goals, Biereth was a tireless worker and presser that caused Reims to kick the ball out from the back, with him being a constant target for Monaco attacks.

AS Monaco’s Commanding Performance
The tactical discipline and attacking vibrancy of Monaco made it hard for no one to do anything against the wall. Their midfield were the masters of control possession in this match they simply imposed their will on the game, manufacturing several decent scoring chances. Wingers stretched the dimensions of Reims defense, full-backs stretched even more to offer more going forward the kind of width that caused Reims structural problems. Defensively, Monaco kept a high tempo and were imperious in quickly nullifying Reims counterattacks. Their quick transitions from defence to attack kept Reims on their back all game.
