Marco Jansen Joins Muttiah Muralidaran In Elite List After 11-Wicket Haul In SA vs SL 1st Test

South African cricketer Marci Jansen ended up adding his name in elite list featuring Muttiah Muralidaran after SA vs SL 1st Test.

South African pacer Marco Jansen ripped off the Sri Lankan team in the SA vs SL 1st Test and took 11 wickets during the match. The performance includes a seven-wicket haul during the first innings which blew away the visitors for 42 runs, which was their lowest Test score in their cricketing history as of now. The Sri Lankan team wasn’t able to chase down 515 runs in the fourth innings which helped the Proteas to take a 1-0 lead in the two match. Jansen was named as the Player of the Match for his performance in the match whereas he also joined legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralidaran in an elite list.

Marco Jansen Joins Muttiah Muralidaran In Elite List

Marco Jansen became the bowler to achieve the second best figures at the Kingsmead, Durban and the fourth bowler to take ten or more wickets at the ground. He joined the likes of Australia’s Clarence Grimmett, Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralidaran and India’s Venkatesh Prasad. Jansen ended the match with figures of 11/86 in 28.3 overs. Australia’s Grimmett holds the record of the best figures in Durban and took 13 wickets by giving away 173 runs in 1936.

Getting back to the SL vs SA 1st Test, South Africa was wrapped up for 191 runs in their first innings by Sri Lanka wherein South African skipper Temba Bavuma played a decent knock of 70 runs from 117 balls. Sri Lankan bowlers including Asitha Fernando, Vishwa Fernando and Lahiru Kumara produced a brilliant bowling performance. On the other hand, the visitors were rattled for 42 runs in reply to Proteas’ first innings courtesy of seven-fer from Marco Jansen. Batting in the second innings, South Africa put up a mammoth score of 366/5 d after hundreds from Temba Bavuma and Tristan Stubbs. The Sri Lankan team couldn’t chase down 515 runs in their second innings and ended up losing the match by 233 runs.
