Former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson gets down to the YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in what is set to be one of the biggest exhibition bouts in history. The fight will took place at the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, USA.
“Anyone I want,” Paul said. “This is the biggest event. Everyone is next on the list. I’m not going to call out names.”
Asked about the rumours of a match up with Mexican fighter, Canelo Alvarez, Paul added: “Canelo needs me so I’m not going to call him out. He needs the money.”
“I’m really happy. He was a good fighter and well prepared,” Tyson said. “I didn’t prove anything to anyone. Just to myself.”
Asked on a knee brace that he wore for the fight, Tyson said: “I can’t use that as an excuse or wouldn’t have been in there.”
Asked if this was the end for Tyson in the ring, he concluded: “I don’t think so.”
“It was tough like I expected it to be,” Paul said. “He’s exactly what I thought. One of the greatest to ever do it. He’s an icon and a legend.”
On not going for the knock-out win, he added: “I was scared he was going to hurt me. I was trying to hurt him.”
Jake Paul won the points hands down over Tyson - 278 thrown to 97.
The younger fighter set up Tyson, prompting a warning from the referee, before landing a one-two to close out the round.
Tyson manages to start each round with a burst of energy, but soon falls back into a more defensive stance. The difference in punches landed is stark, as Paul’s reach consistently overpowers Tyson’s slower pace.
The former champion struggles to take control, as Paul keeps him at bay with the jab, steadily racking up punches thrown and landed. Tyson needs a game-changing shot to turn the tide, or it’s shaping up to be a rope-a-dope strategy leading to a Paul victory by points.
The message was straightforward: "Get in the fight now—you can't afford to wait."
