New Delhi: With 7787 runs in Test cricket, Kane Williamson now became the highest run-scorer for New Zealand as he surpassed his former teammate Ross Taylor’s 7683 runs. Kane Williamson overhauled Taylor’s tally in 20 fewer matches and 35 fewer innings.

New Zealand’s former Test captain achieved this feat in the ongoing 2nd Test match against England at Basin Reserve in Wellington. Williamson smashed the bounder to top the chart for Blackcaps.

Williamson brings up his 26th century

The 36-year-old batter scored 132 runs, smashing his 26th Test hundred. Williamson returned to the pavilion after he was dismissed by the part-time bowler Harry Brook.

“It’s not something I have thought a whole lot about but it’s an honour if you look at the names on that list,” Kane Williamson said.

“I admired a lot of them growing up, then played alongside some of them, but it’s special to be in that company,” he added.

Ross Taylor reaction

Ross Taylor also acknowledged Williamson’s achievement and congratulated him on Twitter.

“Congratulations, Kane,” Taylor posted on Twitter. “This achievement is a testament to your hard work and dedication to Test cricket, of which I was privy to for a number of years.”

The right-hand batter, Williamson, started the two-match series against England, he needed 39 runs to clinch the record. However, he scored just 10 runs in the first three innings as he struggled to face the English pacers.

Williamson now sits in the 35t position at the table of highest run-getters. Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 15,921 runs.
