Rishabh Pant To OUT For Next Test Match At Edgbaston Despite Smashing Twin Centuries? ICC Reprimands Indian Centurion

The wicket-keeper expressed his disagreement by tossing the ball on the ground in front of the umpires.

India vice-captain and wicketkeeper batter, Rishabh Pant, has been reprimanded for breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which is related to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.” During the 61st over of England’s innings, when Harry Brook and Ben Stokes were at the crease, Pant was observed conversing with the umpires about the state of the ball. When the umpires did not agree to replace the ball after inspection through the ball gauge, the wicket-keeper expressed his disagreement by tossing the ball on the ground in front of the umpires.

Pant’s Response

There was no hearing for discipline since Pant accepted the offence and agreed to the sanction imposed by the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, Richie Richardson. But Pant’s dissatisfaction around the umpires’ decisions was witnessed by many spectators at Leeds, due to which he was also booed at the stadium for his actions. The allegations were made by on-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and Paul Reiffel, the third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, and the fourth umpire Mike Burns. Level 1 offences have a minimum of an official sanction of reprimand, a maximum of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

Will Pant’s Mistakes Cost Him The Second Test?

Rishabh Pant, despite smashing twin centuries at Headingley, made some blunders. According to some cricket pundits, the wicketkeeper batter took a lot of time yesterday. He also dropped Harry Brook’s catch behind the stumps when the English batter was at just 46 runs. Brook then went to score 99 runs after getting dropped again by Yashasvi Jaiswal, but eventually the Indians got rid of him at 99 with Shardul Thakur taking a comfortable catch. Then an argument with the umpire also reflected Pant’s anger on the ground, due to which the ICC reprimanded him.

Indian Innings Wrapped Up At 370

India finished their campaign at Leeds by giving a total of 371 runs to the hosts. Rishabh Pant smashed 2 brilliant centuries in both innings. Despite raining the stadium with runs in the first innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill could not create an impact with the bat in the second innings. KL Rahul’s blistering ton made India’s total to 370 runs.
