Shakib Al Hasan Set For Emotional Farewell Test Against South Africa In Dhaka

Shakib Al Hasan is named in Bangladesh's squad for his farewell Test against South Africa, starting October 21 in Dhaka.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board, BCB, has named Shakib Al Hasan in the 15-member team that will play South Africa in the first Test at Dhaka where the veteran all-rounder will retire from Test cricket. Other than the exclusion of pacer Khaled Ahmed, the team is the same which toured India recently.

Shakib’s Farewell Test

Shakib recently opted to retire from T20 internationals and would love to finish his Test career at Dhaka’s home ground. However, such an attempt was vitiated due to his links with the Awami League regime and allegations against him in a murder case. Such allegations were eventually cleared as Shakib apologized for keeping mum in the wake of student protests and sought public support to play his last Test.

Upcoming Fixtures

The Tigers will then travel to the UAE for a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan with hopefully a very smooth Shakib farewell. The previous second Test in Chattogram is now behind South Africa and Bangladesh.

The first Test is slated to begin on October 21 and will also mark the debut of interim coach Phil Simmons, who replaces the suspended Chandika Hathurusinghe.

Squad For 1st Test: Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Shadman lslam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Zakir Hasan, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das (WK), Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana
