Batting Struggles Of West Indies

Chasing 163 runs proves a disastrous start for the West Indies. Brandon King, who had been in good form with a half-century in the previous match, could not make much of himself this time, scoring only 5 runs. Evin Lewis was also not up to the mark; he scored only 7 runs. Dunith Wellalage has come out to be a thorn in the West Indies side as they lost Roston Chase for a duck and dismissed Andre Fletcher for just 4 runs.

Sherfane Rutherford could do little in the tail-end of the innings, scoring just 14 runs before being dismissed by Charith Asalanka. Captain Rovman Powell was looking more than safe with 20 runs off 17 deliveries, but it was Kusal Mendis, who with the occasional Pathirana bowling was credited with his dismissal when he caught him.

The West Indies eventually folded, with eight of the batters unable to reach double figures.

Bright Bowling By Sri Lanka

Dunith Wellalage was the best of the bowlers who took 3 wickets for 9 runs off just 4 overs. Matheesha Pathirana and Charith Asalanka took two wickets each, which finally broke the West Indies batting line-up.

Nissanka Shines With The Bat

Pathum Nissanka was the star of Sri Lanka’s batting team. He scored 54 off 49 balls with 9 fours and a six. Kusal Mendis added another 26 runs from 25 balls. It took Kusal Perera only 16 deliveries for 24 runs. Kamindu Mendis scored 19 runs for the visiting team to set a tough target for the home team.

So, with that win, Sri Lanka would look to build onto that spin strength through the games still to come.
