During the decisive Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Pakistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium Virat Kohli established his spot in cricket history by displaying excellent fielding alongside breaking multiple records. The catch Kohli took to dismiss Naseem Shah on 14 runs from Kuldeep Yadav’s delivery marked his 157th ODI catch thus becoming the Indian fielder who had taken the most ODI catches surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin’s previous record of 156 catches. Virat in the end dismissed Khushdil Shah which took his number to 158 catches.

Kohli demonstrated top fielding skill through his remarkable grab during that match. Kohli launched after a delivery from Kuldeep Yadav when Naseem Shah hit the ball poorly and successfully claimed it at the boundary. Kuldeep Yadav bowled a delivery that eliminated Pakistan’s late batting challenge which granted India their eighth wicket. Kohli had to run for 23 metres. Virat’s catch effiiency in ODI’s has been 81%.
