With the announcement of the Indian squad for the England tour for a 5 match test series, the excitement of the spectators has been escalating. Shubman Gill has been named as the new skipper for the Indian side, while Rishabh Pant, who has been struggling a lot in this IPL, has been elected as the vice-captain for the team. With a much younger side lacking experience of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the doubts and speculations about the batting line have raised many eyebrows. Moreover, Joe Root, who has been at the pinnacle of Test cricket, will also be meeting with the Indian side in the series that will kick off from June 20.

Root – 36, India – 29
Joe Root has mastered the longest format of the game as one of the most embraced batters of the era. He has managed to smash 36 Test centuries, which overtakes the combined centuries of the Indian squad. Skipper Shubman Gill has smashed 5 Test centuries, Yashasvi Jaiswal with 4, KL Rahul with 8, Rishabh Pant with 6, Triple centurian Karun Nair has been able to get into three digits just once, Nitish Kumar Reddy smashed just one century against Australia in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 which is his only Test century, India’s ace allrounder, Ravindra Jadeja contributed with 4 centuries. This brings the combined century of the squad to 29, which is still 7 tons short of Joe Root.
Root’s Current Form
Recently, against the West Indies, Joe Root surpassed Indian cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to become the fastest player to score 13,000 runs in Test cricket before eventually getting dismissed on 34 runs off 44 balls to Blessing Muzarabani. He needed just 28 runs to achieve this milestone.
