Wickets & Votes: Indian Cricketers’ Wives In the Politics Apart From Rinku Singh’s Wife Priya Saroj

Apart from Rinku Singh, many Indian cricketers have been married to women with political influence.

Indian cricketer Rinku Singh has been engaged with the Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj in Lucknow. Many prominent personalities from politics, like Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav, Shivpal Yadav, Ramgopal Yadav, Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra Yadav, and Sambhal MP Ziaur Rahman Burke, attended the engagement ceremony. But this is not the first time a cricketer has married a politician. Apart from Rinku Singh, Indian cricketers like Ravindra Jadeja, Navjot Singh Sidhu, and Kirti Azad have also been married to women with political influence.

Rivaba Jadeja (Ravindra Jadeja’s Wife)

Players from both teams frequently refer to him as ‘Sir Jadeja’ while playing. Rivaba Jadeja, his wife, is now known as ‘Madam MLA’ in the field of politics. Rivaba Jadeja ran for the election in Jamnagar North on behalf of the BJP and was elected. Jadeja often took part in his wife’s political campaigns. Social media users shared pictures of Kimbell’s house all over the Internet. She is an engineer by profession, completing her education from  Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad.

Navjot Kaur Sidhu (Navjot Singh Sidhu’s Wife)

He appeared on television after finishing his cricket career, and then took on politics. Still, there is no difference in the greatness of Navjot Kaur Sidhu. She started out as a doctor, and later on she chose to serve in politics. After she was elected to the MLA from Punjab, her opinions many times captured media attention. People often find them in the spotlight of the media.

Poonam Azad (Kirti Azad’s Wife)

Kirti Azad was one of the players who won the 1983 World Cup. He was first an athlete and cricket player and then an MP for BJP, after leaving cricket. Ms. Poonam Azad was also actively involved in politics. She was a member of the Aam Aadmi Party earlier and then teamed up with the BJP. Unfortunately, Poonam Azad died in the year 2024.
