RCB came out as the first team eliminated from WPL 2025 during the opening round after they lost by twelve runs against UP Warriorz on March 8 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The batting order initiated by UP Warriorz produced 225/5 runs during 20 overs after Georgia Voll hammered 99 runs against 56 balls. The pursuit to reach the target by RCB ended unsuccessfully resulting in an unfortunate and early competition removal as title defenders.
RCB Falls Short In High-Scoring Chase
The Royal Challengers Bangalore pursued 226 runs in their chase before the bowling opposition ended their attempt at 213 in 19.3 overs. The star performance of wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh with 69 runs from 33 balls could not secure a victory for her team. The team’s defeat became expensive because it placed RCB at the lowest position in the points ranking with two victories and four total points from seven games. The defending champions received their final elimination from the Women’s Premier League 2025 after this defeat thus ending their tournament on a negative note.
Early Wickets And Late Fightback Not Enough For RCB
RCB start their run chase with a concerning first inning when their captain Smriti Mandhana was dismissed out for a score of four runs. The innings stabilisation attempts of Ellyse Perry with 28 runs off 15 balls and Sabbhineni Meghana with 27 runs off 12 balls could not prevent RCB from losing their remaining three wickets when they reached 76 runs in 6.5 overs. Richa Ghosh provided most of the offensive power in her aggressive batting which included six fours and five sixes before other batters failed to maintain consistent participation during RCB’s batting run. The quickfire 26 runs Sneh Rana scored in her six-ball appearance during the 14th over brought RCB marginal relief but their tournament ended after this match.
