One Strike And You’re Out! Government Introduces New Social Media Regulations

The Government of India has applied some new regulations for social media users which could see one's account being deleted on even 1 mistake

The government has gone ahead and introduced a new rule for users of social media platforms. According to this rule, if you make just one mistake, your other social media accounts, including Facebook and Instagram, will be permanently deleted. If you do not want this to happen, you should avoid making such a mistake.

The surprising change in the rule has been implemented after the recommendation of digital personal data protection, where social media accounts can be deleted without notifying the user.

As per the new government rule, all users who have not accessed their social media accounts in the last three years or have not made any posts through these accounts may face permanent closure by the government.

This rule concerning social media might also be applicable to e-commerce companies, online marketplaces, gaming companies, and all social media companies. This could potentially reveal the number of users in India across various platforms.

Users in line of fire

The government’s new rule will mostly affect users who leave their accounts inactive for months and, when they forget their account passwords, resort to creating new social media accounts. If you have created multiple accounts similarly and some of them have been inactive for a long time, there is a possibility that your old inactive accounts might be subject to deletion as per the rules. Users should therefore ensure to keep these accounts active and maintain their password security.

“We had received feedbacks from social media companies that we can retrieve the information from a closed account after three years of closing.”
