A mothers’ love has no limits and a brave mother dog in Mumbai proved it. She fought off a leopard and came back to feed her puppies. Her amazing act was shared by rescuers on Instagram and people online are praising her for her courage.
In Aarey Colony, Goregaon (a suburb of Mumbai), a mother dog was attacked by a leopard right in front of her 10 puppies. Shocking CCTV footage shows the leopard grabbing the dog in its mouth and walking away
But the brave dog didn’t give up. She fought the leopard, escaped, and came back to feed her puppies. Sadly, she was badly hurt — her neck was torn, and she had other injuries too. Still, she returned to care for her babies.
The dog, now named Shakti, was rescued by an NGO called World For All, based in Andheri. She is now getting medical treatment, while tribal residents of Aarey Colony are taking care of her puppies.
World For All shared her story on Instagram, and it quickly went viral. They wrote, “In a shocking incident caught on CCTV, a mother dog was attacked and dragged away by a leopard in front of her pups. Shakti fought bravely, escaped, and returned to her babies. She was refused help at many places before we were called in.”

Shakti Undergoes Surgery After Leopard Attack
Shakti, the brave mother dog who escaped a leopard attack, needed urgent medical help. She couldn’t eat or drink properly because of a hole in her neck. According to the Times of India, she had surgery at Top Dogs Pet Clinic in Andheri West, Mumbai.
‘She had a perforation in the neck. The food pipe was punctured and food was trickling out of the hole,’ said Dr Makarand Chousalkar, who also mentioned that the wound had become infected.
A team of doctors — Dr Barry Kalsy, Dr Akshata Gulvady, and Dr Kaavya Sudhakar — worked together to treat her.
‘The perforated part of the oesophagus [food pipe] was sutured,‘ Dr Chousalkar explained.
‘The dog is slowly recovering.‘
