Air India recently landed in trouble and faced backlash from netizens after a flight en route from Chicago to Delhi was forced to turn back mid-air on Thursday. Though the truth remains stiff that the plane circled back to the United States allegedly due to clogged toilets, a viral video showing passengers trapped inside the plane is fake.
A video shared on X by a user named Dom Lucre has been making rounds on the internet. After being posted online, it amassed millions of views within a matter of few hours. However, a fact check conducted on the video revealed that it was filmed in January 2025. The footage is from an Air India flight, however, it had nothing to do with the recent lavatory incident. The social media user posting the video with the tags “breaking” and directly referencing it to the Delhi-bound Air India flight has probably made it viral.

In its initial statement issued yesterday, a spokesperson from the airline said that a technical snag forced the flight to circle back to the US. The passengers on board were offered a full refund with complimentary rescheduling, he added. However, the passengers claimed they were forced to rush to obtain a refund.
“Alternative arrangements are being made to fly the passengers to their destination. In addition, full refunds on cancellation and complimentary rescheduling are also being offered to passengers if opted by them. At Air India, the safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew remain top priority,” ANI quoted the spokesperson as saying.
Meanwhile, in an anonymous post on Reddit shared 4 days ago, a passenger claimed that the incident happened because 8 out of 12 toilets in the Air India flight were blocked!
