Days After Trudeau’s Exit, India Blames ‘License To Extremists’ For Canada Ties Downturn

Days after Justin Trudeau's resignation as Canada's Prime Minister, India has reiterated its concerns about Canada's alleged "license to extremists," blaming this for the deterioration in bilateral relations.

On Friday India explained the deterioration of bilateral ties as resulting from North American freedom extended to extremist and separatist groups. External extremist groups in Canada received permission to operate which became the main reason behind the deterioration of Canada-India diplomatic relations. MEA official Randhir Jaiswal stated to ANI that both nations hope to restore their relations through mutual trust and sensitivity.

The MEA spokesperson made these statements after Mark Carney took over the prime minister position from Justin Trudeau. The Canadian government plans to create different trading networks with countries that share similar political values. Carney expressed his anticipation to establish those business partnerships during his prime ministerial period. On March 15 the previous head of the central bank took office as prime minister of Canada.

India-Canada Tensions Under Trudeau

Indian-Canadian diplomatic relations suffered severe damage after Trudeau declared in 2023 that Indian government officials ordered the Surrey-based assassination of pro-Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

India has firmly dismissed all Canadian allegations because Ottawa has failed to submit any evidence supporting their serious accusations made against Indian diplomats and officials.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs the reckless behaviour of Prime Minister Trudeau became the sole cause of harm done to bilateral relations between Canada and India.
