India has delivered a strong response to Pakistan’s continuous raising of the Kashmir issue at United Nations (UN). R Madhu Sudan, a Counsellor in India’s UN Mission, urged Pakistan to focus on addressing its internal matters instead of indulging in frivolous allegations against India.

During the UN Security Council’s Open Debate on Famine and Conflict-Induced Global Food Insecurity, a Pakistani representative brought up the Kashmir issue, drawing a rebuke from Madhu Sudan.

He suggested that the concerned delegation should prioritize their internal issues and work towards restoring order within their own borders, rather than diverting the council’s attention with such allegations.

Madhu Sudan expressed disappointment at how one delegation repeatedly misused the forum to further their agenda, taking the focus away from crucial topics like food security. He emphasized India’s unwavering stance on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, stressing that there is no room for negotiation on this matter.

Regarding engaging in debates with those who resort to terrorism to advance their unlawful goals, Madhu Sudan asserted that it is unnecessary for India to do so. Instead, he advised Pakistan to concentrate on addressing its internal matters and ensuring order within its borders.

India and Pakistan have a long-standing strained relationship, with issues such as cross-border terrorism and the Kashmir dispute contributing to the tension. India firmly maintains that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country, while Pakistan contests this view.

Since August 2019, bilateral relations between India and Pakistan have been particularly tense, following India’s decision to alter the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
