Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin informed that Russia’s air defense system shot down four Ukrainian drones heading towards the capital, temporarily halting flights at a major Moscow airport.
Amid the incident, the Russian Defense Ministry said that 48 Ukrainian drones were intercepted in a period of about five hours till Saturday evening, while 45 more drones were shot down during the day. The ministry had already informed that 94 drones were destroyed in the skies of Russia on Friday night.
On the other hand, the Ukrainian Air Force says that Russia launched a total of 322 drones and decoys from Friday night to Saturday morning, of which 157 were shot down and 135 drones possibly deviated from the route due to electronic interference.
US President Donald Trump said after talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday that Patriot missiles would be needed to protect Ukraine.
Trump also voiced frustration over Russian President Vladimir Putin’s failure to end the fighting. Trump told reporters he was “very unhappy” about his earlier call with Putin. “It just seems like he wants to go all the way and just keep killing people… It’s not good. I wasn’t happy with it,” he said, as per Al Jazeera.
