After mediating peace and brokering ceasefire between Israel and Iran, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, expressed possibility of talks with Iran on its nuclear ambitions. He claimed that American and Iranian officials would hold talks next week, despite the fact that Tehran has declared to not stop its nuclear program. While Trump and Israel assert to have destroyed Iranian nuclear sites, Tehran’s report on extent of damage defers. The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) had earlier, assured its citizens that despite the evil conspiracies of its enemies, it won’t stop the development of nuclear program.
What Did Trump Say?
While speaking at the NATO Heads of State and Government summit in The Hague (Netherlands), Trump didn’t clearly mention about his plans on talks or agreement with Iran. However, he expressed a little possibility by saying, “We’re going to talk to them next week, with Iran. We may sign an agreement. I don’t know. To me, I don’t think it’s that necessary.”
Reiterating the significant blow caused to Iranian nuclear facilities, Trump said that Tehran wants to recover now instead of enriching Uranium. “I’ll tell you, the last thing they want to do is enrich anything right now. They want to recover.” Trump added.
US envoy to the United Nations Dorothy Shea earlier stated that the US strikes have effectively fulfilled the objective to degrade Iran’s capacity to produce a nuclear weapon.
Notably, Iran has not acknowledged any upcoming talks with the United States. However, Trump earlier, announced to have asked US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to draft an agreement for Iran to sign after he noted that the ceasefire is “going very well.”
