Aurangzeb or Alamgir was the last of the prominent Early Mughal Rulers.

His successors were not as capable as him.
As a young governor in his youth years, he ignored the Maratha problem.
However, as a king in his last 25 years, he shifted all his focus towards his Deccan policy.
His Deccan policy involved controlling Hindu Maratha rulers and Muslim Bijapur and Golconda rulers by cutting them off from each other.
In 1686 he conquered Bijapur and in the following year, he conquered Golconda.
He could not conquer the Maratha territory but managed to capture and execute Sambhaji.
However, even by the end of his life, he could not subdue the Marathas.
He died on 3rd March 1707.

Therefore, Aurangzeb spent nearly 25 years in Deccan, because to check Maratha expansion.
