Question
Download Solution PDFCalculate the area of a pipe, if the rate of flow of a liquid in it is 60 litres per minute and the flow velocity is 10 cm/s.
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFConcept:
Discharge:
- Discharge is given by the product of area of cross section of the pipe and discharge/flow velocity.
And 1 Litres = 10-3 m3
Calculation:
Given:
Discharge = 60 litres/minute = 60 × 10-3 m3 /min = 60 × 10-3 × 106 cm3 /min= 60 × 103 cm3/min = 103 cm3/sec
Flow velocity = 10 cm/s
∵ Discharge = flow velocity × Area
⇒ 103 = 10 × Area
⇒ Area = 100 cm2
