Let total voters be x.
Votes cast = 90% of x
Valid votes = 0.90x - 60
Votes of winner = 0.46x
Votes of rival = 0.46x - 410
Valid votes = Votes of winner + Votes of rival
Calculation:
0.90x - 60 = 0.46x + (0.46x - 410)
⇒ 0.90x - 60 = 0.92x - 410
⇒ 0.92x - 0.90x = -60 + 410
⇒ 0.92x - 0.90x = 350
⇒-0.02x = 350
⇒ x = 17500
∴ The number of voters on the list is 17500.
